COMMITTEES OF THE MEMBERS

LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE

A significant exposure of county government is law enforcement. Members of the County Sheriff Offices are confronted with more situations likely to result in some type of claim than members of any other office or department in the county. The Law Enforcement Committee, through the Utah Sheriff’s Association, is actively involved in training of law enforcement personnel, suggesting legislation to assist law enforcement and reviewing model policies and procedures to avoid suits and operate the offices more professionally. The Committee Chair, who also is a Director, reports and makes recommendations to the Board when needed.

LITIGATION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Litigation Management Committee is comprised of County Attorneys and Deputy County Attorneys. The Committee meets regularly to discuss individual claims, claims administration strategies, litigation trends inside and outside the Pool and to review the list of approved defense attorneys from which the claims manager assigns counsel to individual cases. The Committee Chair, who also is a Director, then reports and makes recommendations to the Board at regularly scheduled meetings. Officials from member counties often attend the Committee meetings to provide input or request certain action on a particular claim.

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

The Personnel Committee is comprised of county human resources/personnel directors who coordinate an annual Personnel Workshop geared to training counties in the areas of personnel laws, policies, practices and the management of employees. The Committee Chair, who also is a Director, reports and makes recommendations to the Board when needed.
